Experience Coastal Trail Running At It’s Best!

Following the route of one of South Africa’s most spectacular coastal trails, the Alexandria Trail Run is sure to provide an unforgettable trail running experience to every runner that takes part.

Ordinarily reserved for a maximum of 12 persons at any one time, this is a unique opportunity to be among a select group of people lucky enough to experience running on one of South Africa’s hidden trail treasures.

From dense dune forest to the wide expanses of the Alexandria dune field, this is a bucket list event for any serious trail runner!

The 52km

Introduced in 2021, we now have a 52km ultra distance option incorporated into this amazing route.

Your adventure begins with an extra section of forest running through sections of the reserve that no one really visits anymore.

Eventually you will connect in with the 39km route, and you will then follow this for the duration of the race.

  • 52 km entrants must be 18 years or older.
  • All 52 km runners must register between 05h00 and 05h50 on race day.

ALL runners MUST carry a cup, whistle, space blanket, windproof outer shell, buff (to protect against flying sand on the dunes) and a hydration pack (min. 1.5l) which can be refilled at the water points.
  • This is a green race so no litter will be tolerated. Please discard any wrappers/ papers at the checkpoints.
  • NOTE: We support the run clean movement, so no cups will be provided at the water points!
  • The route follows the Alexandria Hiking Trail which is marked, and there will be a sweeper ensuring everyone gets through the course.
  • Prizegiving will be at 13h00
  • Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and female runners.

ALL runners MUST carry:

The 39km

Your adventure begins with running through a magical forest, where you’ll encounter ancient Yellowoods, spectacular coral trees and possibly a Knysna Loerie or Crowned Hornbill.

Once you exit the forest, you’ll then carry on through some open grassland until you hit the coastline, where you’ll move down onto the beach to run alongside dramatic dune cliffs and wild seas. Keep an eye out for dolphins who are regularly seen playing in the waves!

As you leave the coast you begin traversing the Alexandria Duneveld, the largest duneveld in the Southern Hemiphere! You then start winding your way back to where you connect with the 7km route and finish with a beautiful run along amazing single track through more dense and mysterious indigenous forest.

Be a part of the Alexandria Trail Run and experience a whole new trailrunning adventure!
